XMTB were the host club this week for round 7 of the Ulster cyclocross league at Ormeau park in Belfast.  This venue has been used by the club for years and they sure know how to build a good course!  For the second year running they used the Ormeau rd end of the park changing it slightly for this year.  It had a good mix of terrain that really tested the riders – both physically Read more

Team Madigan host Larne Cyclocross

It was a damp and windy day at Seacourt in Larne for round 6 of the Ulster CX series.  The course was very similar to last year held on the playing fields which was nearly all grass/mud apart from a short length of tarmac path.  The KCC headers this week were Elliot in U10s, Reuben and Andrew in U12s, CX newbie Andrew E in the mtb support, Richard in Bs, Drew in U16s, Scott and myself (Ross) in the Read more

Dungannon CX

Windmill park in Dungannon was the venue for round 4 of the Ulster Cyclocross league hosted by Island Wheelers.  This was the 5th year that the club have used this brilliant venue which is a bit rougher in places than your usual CX course.  This suited the riders with MTB skills but saying that, there were a few smoother sections to keep the roadies happy!  And of course there was everything in between like grass, dirt, steps and Read more

Cyclocross in the Maiden City

Over 300 including 5 Killinchy riders attended the 4th round of the Ulster CX league at St. Columb’s Park, Lderry hosted by Foyle CC.  And what a venue it was!  The recent dry weather made for a dry fast 1.6 mile course which included gravel, loads of forest sections, steps, footpath, grass and only a couple of muddy patches.   Representing KCC was Reuben and Andrew in the under 12s, Drew in the under 16s, and Scott and Ross in Read more

Two podiums for Killinchy CX’ers!

The cyclocross season continued on Sunday with the second round of the Kinning Cycles CX league in Dundonald.  The race was held on the grassy area beside the Icebowl as well as the steep rougher ground behind.  The steep climb forced the riders off their bikes but it was worth it – as the decent was fun and tested everyone’s skills to stay upright!  The course then twisted and turned with plenty of off-camber, gravel, grass and Read more

Winter spin classes, amongst other training programs have started

We have been working hard to put on several programs of training to help our members get fit(ter) over the dark and cold winter months. We have organised two spin classes per week and a yoga class, with some doing their own training on top of this by attending various leisure centres to start and get into shape for next season (or just to look good for their partners). It’s also great to see so many of Read more

A perfect Autumn weekend for our roadies and off-roadies!

On Saturday we had decent turnout for the annual Christian Aid charity cycle.  Starting at Delamont we headed around by Lisbane, Raffery, Kilmore, Woodgrange, Ballynoe, Raholp direction.  As you can tell by the route, this was all twisty back roads with plenty of climbing.  Everyone enjoyed the BBQ at the finish and it was great to hear they raised over £9000 from this event. On Sunday we had over 20 attend the AMH Granite Challenge.  This Read more

CX is back!!

The cyclo-cross season has begun and it is great to see more Killinchy riders taking up this fun (but tough) sport! Friday night was the first round of the Kinning Cycles CX league at Orangefield in Belfast.  This was a fast course which had a bit of everything – grass slopes, switchbacks, boggy grass, planks, pallets and even a lap of the velodrome! The floodlights were a great addition this year which added to the atmosphere and Read more
