It was a dirty weekend all round

It didn’t matter if you were off or on road cycling over the weekend as it was dirty everywhere. On Saturday we had a few out on different club runs and TBH it would’ve been better to go MTB as it may have been cleaner, however they braved the weather and put in some good miles. Sunday saw the first race of the Spring League at Ormeau Park hosted by XMTB.  It was a dirty Read more

From couch potato to A4

Anyone can just buy an A4 license but realistically and to get maximum fun out of racing you need to both practically and metaphorically get up to speed. I use cycling as a way of keeping fit and when this is done in a structured way, the average cyclist can continually improve. The beauty in cycling is if you train smart you get back many positive returns from what you put in. There are numerous Read more

NDCC host 10th and final round of the Ulster CX series

It was back to Castle park for the Bangor race after a change of venue last year.  The course was totally different than last time using a lot more of the field area but still had plenty of forest trail sections to keep the off-roaders happy.  The grass area was surprisingly damp and quickly cut up with the section near the pits nearly unrideable towards the end of the races. The rest of the course Read more

Shimna Wheelers host UCX round 9 at Donard Park

Shimna Wheelers hosted the 9th round at Donard Park on Sunday – this was their first time running a CX race and they did a great job. The recent dry weather made for a fast, dry course with plenty of grip.  It consisted of grass, gravel paths, rough and bumpy woodland, a sand pit and three obstacles to jump over!  The atmosphere was fantastic with plenty of spectators braving the cold wind of the Irish sea. Elliot was first Read more

I’m a CXer, get me out of here!!

The Killinchy racers headed to The Jungle on Sunday for round 8 of the Ulster league.  This was host club Carn Wheelers first time using this outdoor adventure venue outside Moneymore and you can see why they chose it!  The lap started on a steep hill before winding down a slippy sweeping bend. Then there were the usual hurdle boards, tarmac, grass and then onto the first steep gravel/mud climb that soon sorted everyone out!  The climb Read more
