Dungannon CX

Published by admin on

Windmill park in Dungannon was the venue for round 4 of the Ulster Cyclocross league hosted by Island Wheelers.  This was the 5th year that the club have used this brilliant venue which is a bit rougher in places than your usual CX course.  This suited the riders with MTB skills but saying that, there were a few smoother sections to keep the roadies happy!  And of course there was everything in between like grass, dirt, steps and off-cambers.

In the U10s we had our normally fair weather racer Elliott putting in a strong performance with a 5th place out of a field of 20! His big brother Reuben had an equally strong ride with a 6th in the fast U12s.

Result of the day again goes to Drew with a 2nd in the U16s, after leading for most of the 5 lap race and putting in some fast and consistent lap times.

Rod was the lone Orange and Black man in the 90 rider B race, spending half of the race dodging people and bikes lying in the muck!  He made his way through the field to a respectable 47th place.

For the A race it was again Scott and myself (Ross) starting at almost the back of the grid.  Scott was flying using his strength and mtb skills, working his way up to 11th place in the 53 rider field.  I finished the 6 lap race under the hour, further back in 29th and was pleased not be lapped by the machine that is Barry Kellett!

A big thanks to the organisers and helpers and we all hope the Apollo rider makes a quick recovery after a crash in the B race.  Round 5 is this Sunday in Larne hosted by Team Madigan.  See you there!!
