It was a dirty weekend all round

It didn’t matter if you were off or on road cycling over the weekend as it was dirty everywhere.

On Saturday we had a few out on different club runs and TBH it would’ve been better to go MTB as it may have been cleaner, however they braved the weather and put in some good miles.

Sunday saw the first race of the Spring League at Ormeau Park hosted by XMTB.  It was a dirty one by the looks of George’s legs! KCC had a good strong field with riders in every category and with our newest members The Galbraith family dipping their toes into XC racing it was an all round good day for the club (apart from our Chair who once again was beaten by mechanicals, but still achieved 2nd place)

Sunday also saw a very wet & windy John Haldane race held by Newry Wheelers along the Newry to Warrenpoint carriageway and even though conditions weren’t ideal for racing it didn’t stop a big field of riders turning up to participate., with the biggest race of the day see two A1 riders breakaway and bridge the 3min scratch to the A2’s and then go on to earn 1st & 2nd respectively. We only had one rider from KCC attend the event and he didn’t disappoint as he earned more valuable points in A4 to help him on his way to A3 – well done Phil (The Doyler) Doyle in those conditions to get a few points coming in in 7th position.

Will they or won’t they was the question for the 09.30 club run as the weather was to turn for the worst and whilst many usually brave the wind & rain, many didn’t turn up for the club run and due to poor weather conditions it was agreed to change the route (which some thought would be for the best) around the peninsula, however the strong wind and rain had other plans as the half a dozen who went out tasted more seaweed and salty water than they cared to think off 🙂 🙂

And finally – massive well done to Laura Wilson on doing her first Commissaries event at the Newry John Haldane race on Sunday, it was a bit nerve wrecking to say the least, but she done extremely well and ran a very well organised A4 race.

Coming up over the next few months we have our
Killinchy GP – 01/04/17 more info to follow on our events page
Our first TT – 04/04/17 which will be a 2 up event to get the cobwebs blew out.
