Shimna Wheelers host UCX round 9 at Donard Park

Published by admin on

Shimna Wheelers hosted the 9th round at Donard Park on Sunday – this was their first time running a CX race and they did a great job.

The recent dry weather made for a fast, dry course with plenty of grip.  It consisted of grass, gravel paths, rough and bumpy woodland, a sand pit and three obstacles to jump over!  The atmosphere was fantastic with plenty of spectators braving the cold wind of the Irish sea.

Elliot was first up in the Under 10’s and unfortunately got caught up in an incident at the first corner and couldn’t continue.

Next was Reuben and Andrew in the Under 12’s. Reuben rode a strong race over the 6 lap course and finished in 4th place, not to far behind the leaders and Andrew also had a great race finishing 6th.

We then moved onto the MTB support race and were represented by Andrew Evans and newbie racer George McMillen, who both put in great performances to finish well up the field in 8th and 9th.  Machine Andy completed an Audex 200km event in Navan the day before too!

In the 79 rider CX B Race we had Chris Martin who rode well to finish the 5 lap race in 61st.

In the Under 16’s was young Drew Armstrong who led the 5 lap race from start to finish and was rewarded with an excellent 1st place.

Last up was Ross Galway in the 7 lap CX A Race who rode well on a tough course to finish 31st.  Full results here .

Well done all – another great day for KCC!!!!  Next week is the 10th and final Ulster round hosted by North Down CC in Bangor.  The course is back at Castle Park beside the Aurora Centre for this year.  Details on http://ulstercyclocross.com/ .
