Road Race Season Underway and a mudbath at Spring XC league
Annaclone GP, hosted by Banbridge is the traditional curtain raiser to the road racing season, and this year Drew was racing in the A1,A2,A3 race, and Andy’s McCullough and Evans entered the A4.
The A4 race was first off and both KCC riders were well up in the bunch when a crash on the penultimate lap unfortunately ended Andrew Evans’ race. The crash split the remaining riders and Andy M finished strongly but the leading group had got away.
Drew was up in the next race and a 3 minute handicap saw the A3 riders complete a lap of the course before being caught by the A1&A2 riders. The pace slackened off slightly within the bigger group and Drew was working his way up for the final lap. Unfortunately he didn’t get close enough to follow the breakaway but finished strongly in the top 20 but outside the points.
Sunday was the second round of the Spring XC league hosted by XMTB McConvey Cycles. Heavy rain made the course a mud bath and the wind, rain and freezing temperatures saw only the hardiest of riders turn out. Great results again in the U6 race as Josh Parker and Rudi Maitland repeated their 1st and 3rd positions from week ago.
Gracie Maitland and Zac Parker also finished well up the fields in their respective U8 races as did Reuben Maitland in the boys U10.
Michael entered his second XC B race and moved closer to his first podium with an excellent 7th. Scott was last up in the A Race, however it was not to be his day as a mechanical problem ended his race early. By the looks of his kit it would not be surprising if his washing machine had of had a mechanical too!
