Our members had a busy active weekend.
Oh what a busy and active weekend our members just had. Saturday started with a a skiff of frost and biting temperatures but that didn’t stop a lot of members jumping on their bikes and covering a lot of miles over local roads. Sunday was a similar start albeit the frost was must more pronounced so some opted for their MTBs. We also saw members hit the trails at Castleward, Davagh and Rostrevor. Our MTB section is certainly becoming increasingly more popular! We also witnessed the usual Zwifters mixing it up in some competitive events. Of course the Roadies once the frost cleared put their wheels in motion and we saw plenty out and about with many opting for the Peninsula areas where the temperatures were deemed a little warmer — but not much! Not to be outdone, our climbers. Slieve Binnian (05:30 start for Jane) and a few others chose Slieve Donard to stretch their legs in the snow covered mountain tops. Last but not least we had our sea swimmers and without fail some as per usual and what is deemed as normal for these people where in the sea having a refreshing if not freezing swim…. Oh perish the thought! Brrrrrrrrrr.
With effect from Monday 12 April we enter Stage 2 of lockdown lifting whereby we can now ride with more than one person legally and in training groups of up to 15 persons max. Our cycling Calendar is busy being populated by members seeking group rides and some social interaction or in layperson terms – a bitta craic!. Tuesday 13th will see two groups out. 18:30 at Killinchy Community Hall for the Spinners (14mph+) and a second group meeting at Lisbane (17mph+). Wednesday 14th will the see the return of the mid-week ‘Bun Run’ who are meeting at 09:30 Poachers Pocket, Lisbane for a 60mile spin around some local roads and of course a bun! Thursday 15th will again see two groups out. Similar to Tuesday in regard to times and meeting locations, however, different routes.
Friday 16th will see a group going to Gosford for a MTB spin starting at 10:30 with a socially distanced outdoor lunch to follow. Sunday 18th has five group rides in the diary!
