A growing & developing club
Over the past few weeks KCC has gained over six new members and they vary from U16 to adults – this is great for a club that caters for all disciplines and will help in whatever we can to develop members.
The week passed was a busy a week for our Chairman (Scott Maitland) as he raced the interclub TT & won, he then raced the night after at the Ardscc crit and held his own throughout the hard fast paced event (along with Phil Doyle until he had a seat mishap). However these two nights racing wasn’t enough for Scott, as he entered the Mourne Psycle 8hour endurance race on Saturday, and he didn’t disappoint as he fought hard and worked his way through the field, finishing 2nd in the SOLO class, and 6th overall as the other four were teams. Respect to our chair who is continuing to prove he is an ambassador for the club.
Is there anybody who is able to stop wee Drew Armstrong in his category on an MTB, yet again he has dominated another MTB event, this time at the 2nd round of the Gravity Enduro series in Ticknock Ireland, by stepping on to the top step of the podium again – The wee man is on a roll and hopefully it will continue throughout the remainder of the season.
Well done to Philip Carson who competed in the Portrush Triathlon in very warm and humid conditions, he completed the event and finished in a very reasonable time.
Well done to Colin McClements on getting a very good time amongst the other 700 odd entrants at the Comber 10k race on Friday 16th.
Back to open rad racing on Sunday & with Phil’s seat sorted it was time to set off to the Noel Teggart race along with Michael Harkin. It was to turn out to be a very fast, but even hotter race due to the extremely warm weather conditions, however this didn’t slow the riders down as the pace was fast from the off, with juniors setting a lot of the pace at the front, However Phil didn’t feel to well and in the end finished up in the back of an ambulance on an ECG machine, but the end result was he is fit to race again and just needs observe his intake on hot climate races as he was severely dehydrated.
Not everyone is an MTB or road racer, but for the majority of our club these guys & gals like to attend leisure/sportive events & with the weather being so warm on Sunday our club was out in force at the annual NDCC Coastal around the Ards peninsula. The club had a few groups out with the Bespinners and regular Sunday club runs all attending – in total our members for the event covered over 2000 accumulated miles, with some reaching a milestone in distance and average speeds over those distances – this is remarkable to see as it proves our weekly cycles and progressive attitude towards helping each other is working and the club is moving in the right direction
FYI – our annual BBQ is 01/07/17 so keep this date free in your dairies – plus we’re hoping to have a pre-club cycle beforehand to build up an appetite.
