Week Ending 29/05/16
Our turn to run the interclub TT around the Balloo triangle and after the previous week being cancelled due to weather, this week didn’t disappoint in numbers turning out to give this rolling circuit a try. We had 24 riders turn up with visitors from DCC & Ards along with our own three clubs, with Adrian Kinley from SW taking the win from Scott Maitland. Thanks to all the Marshals, helpers, Lyn for her lovely cake and time keepers for making this a successful & safe event.
Club runs continue to gather numbers, however the Wednesday club run was cancelled as some of the racers headed to Kirkstown to give NDCC’s closed racing a try. This was also doe by over eight of our younger KCC members with Reuben getting a win (yet again), and the men also enjoyed getting the experience of riding in scratch with average speeds around 26-27 mph for the duration of the race.
Is there any event Andrew Evans won’t turn a pedal too, as he enjoys the suffering of doing extreme challenges, the Audax 400km didn’t put him off the early start of 06.00 and an even later finish of 03.00 on Sunday morning (must’ve been the extra long stop at McD’s), however Andy rode all day & night to complete the challenge and cover just under 253.6 miles in a little under 21 hours – RESPECT
Is there any local leisure/sportive events that KCC don’t turn to in mass? Well if the last few events are to go by then no, as we had yet again over 25 members turn up to Over the Quoile (run by LLRC), maybe it was the good weather, maybe it was the food, or maybe it was the route and company of fellow club members that brought them out to complete the two distances, however well done to everybody for showing their support for this great cause.
Finally on behalf of my wife and myself we’d like to thank the many members and non members for their support and kindness to us both during the passing of Avril’s younger sister Jill on Wednesday 25th May and during the funeral on Saturday.
