Our intrepid ladies section gave themselves a well deserved break during the winter months but held an event to mark the return of brighter nights and warmer days,

The Killinchy Belles deemed Saturday 11th April 2015 as the official day that they would all get back in the saddle following our Winter break.

The girls (and 1 man! Men always welcome with the Killinchy Belles) turned out in force on a bright morning to embark on our first official group cycle of the year. The group split into 2 to cater for differing abilities and everyone headed off to complete 15-20 miles. Everyone stayed dry and everyone made it back!

We all re-grouped at Killinchy Primary School, where we were met by the Chairman and  committee of Killinchy Cycling Club. The committee provided a very worthwhile training course for the girls on cycling basics. We learned about road safety, cycling as a group, basic bike care and shared lots of tips about better cycling.

The day concluded at our favourite spot, The Poacher’s Pocket, Lisbane. Here we enjoyed a delicious lunch and plenty of refreshments. This was followed by a raffle with a prize and a goody bag for everyone to take home.  Special thanks to our Club sponsors Chain Reaction Cycles and fellow Belle Lisa Allen from Podium 4 Sport for kindly helping with the prizes.  We then entered into the Grand National spirit and enjoyed The Poacher’s Pocket sweepstake, the icing on the cake coming with 2 Killinchy Belles winners!

20 Belles attended the event and a great time was had by all. It was particularly good to see some new faces and thanks to Chain Reaction Cycles and Killinchy Cycling Club for letting the new girls use the club loan bikes. This was great way for them to try out road cycling without a huge initial expense. It was great to see so many Killinchy Belles back on their bikes, roll on our next event!

The Killinchy Belles usually meet once or twice a week, details of our runs can be found on our Facebook page. All welcome to come along and give cycling a go. No one will get left behind!
