Week Ending 09/03/14
Monday & Wednesday nights have been proving to be very busy for unoffical and offical club runs, with 13 riders out on Wednesday 5th in poor conditions. This is great to see and hopefully it will only improve once the nights get brighter and some dust of their road bikes from winter storage.
Some KCC members had a busy weekend with on & off road competitons.
Ross Galway entered the first round of the Ulster XC championship at Rostrevor. He put in a good effort in the S3 class & even with his new tyres, he struggled to stay with the faster riders finishing 27th out of a field of 58 riders. He has realised some more training will be required to get back into the mix with some of the faster paced riders in his class. Watch this space for the next event and results, as he will get his form back sooner, rather than later.
We also had Drew (picture below) & Paul Crossan (who entered his first road race, see picture above) compete at the John Moore memorial in Carryduff. The pace started of quite fast as predicted and a few tried to break away from the off, however the group didn’t allow this to happen. Unfortunately on the 4th lap a small group of around 8-10 did get away, and no matter what effort Drew, Paul (& Damien from CRC) put in they couldn’t bridge the gap.
The race finished with Paul getting a very respectable 12th in his first race, and Drew coming in just behind the group (too much effort and got dropped slightly).
