11 Killinchy riders attend Lurgan CX race
It was the opening round of the Ulster Cyclocross series on Sunday hosted by Apollo CT. This course at Lurgan Park had changed a bit for this year but was still as mucky as ever – proper CX terrain! Killinchy had a rider in every Cat apart from U16 – great show! First off we had young Max in the under 6 race:
Then it was big brother Cole’s turn in the under 8s. Well done finishing 9th in a big field of riders:
Next up was rising star Elliot in the 4 lap U10 race. He only went and WON!
Not to be out done by his younger bro, Reuben was flyin too in the under 12s. Really well done guys…
Next up was the under 14s who do the same course as the adults. What a performance from young Andrew finishing the 2 lap race in 7th. Another one to watch this Season!
Next up was the big kids with myself in the ‘A’ race. I had a great first half-lap until a rider in front broke the tape which caught on my foot and then the wheel! Ended up nearly last by the time I got the tape off. Managed to ride around the 5 laps steady enough with no real dramas finishing 55th out of a field of 87.
After the As was the 4 lap ‘B’ race with Rod, Richard, James and Andy E representing the club. They all rode well in a massive field of 80 riders. Richard a great 7th, Rod 29th, Andy 43rd and James 63rd after a mechanical and then a bike change in the pits to young Andrew’s machine.
The final race was the MTB support with Chairman Scott. Another Maitland win! Imagine what he would have done on a cross bike! Well done to everyone. Thanks to Apollo and to Bronagh Kirk and Heather for the pics. Next week is VC Glendale’s turn at new venue Musgrave Park in Belfast. See you there! Ross. www.ulstercyclocross.com
