Busy Bank Holiday Weekend
It all started on the Friday night when 3 of our open road racers headed off to Armagh for the Hugo Loughran GP held by Island Wheelers. All 3 were entered for the A3 main race around the 23 mile circuit which consisted of two laps, however due to road works on the day the race was reduced to 39 miles finishing on the drag up Killylea road. The race started from the off and all riders rode strong with Phil trying to get a group going up the road at the start of the second lap, and he eventually succeeded with 3 others during the last few miles and he went on to gain 2nd position in his second A3 race, needing only 1 more point to move him up to A2. Andy came in 6th place, earning him enough point to move up to A2 (Killincy CC’s first A2 rider), and Scott came in 18th place well inside the peloton of over 40 riders.
On Sunday young Drew Armstrong got himself down to Cork to compete in the Irish XC league were he worked hard with lots of other entrants to finish a very respectable 2nd place in his category.
The rest of the weekend was relatively quiet in relation to races of the cycling kind, but not for the runners within the club as we had some enter the Belfast marathon. Stuart McIver ran a PB with a time of 3hr 34min, however he was somewhat disappointed with himself as he had set a target of 3hr 30min, however the cramp in his legs made him slow slightly, hence the reason for slowing his pace over the last 5 miles – next up Dublin Marathon were he can make up for it and break his 3hr 30 min. Ross & Pauline Galway also had a crack at running legs of the marathon as part of a relay team, and with little preparation they ran good legs and there team completed the event for their sponsored charity.
Well done to those who braved the windy conditions on Sunday and entered the 3rd world DCC and Tour of the Glens events, as it wasn’t an easy day for cycling..
WELL DONE TO ALL OF THE ABOVE 🙂
