Drew 3rd in Irish Youth Cyclocross Champs!
Report by Drew Armstrong:
Mum and I set off on Sunday morning to Corkagh Park, Dublin for the Irish Youth Cyclocross Champs. Thanks to the newly appointed Officers and Orwell Wheelers these Champs were quickly arranged. I didn’t know what to expect at this venue or know who had entered but I was up for the race. When we arrived I signed on said hi to some familiar faces and got my first look at the course, it was relatively flat using part of a tarmac track but was mostly in the inside field, David Conroy was just finishing taping the course off.
I met up with my mates Ross and Jake and went for some practice laps. There was nothing technical about the course but I did manage to find the only glass and had to return to the van to repair my puncture. After some food and good craic I warmed up on the rollers and made my way to the start line there was a big field of 16 entered, unfortunately it wasn’t gridded so I was on the back row, the race started and off we set I moved up the pack quickly and passed most but could see the twins Will & Archie Ryan ahead working really well together. I tried for the full 5 laps but was never able to bridge the gap to them, it was a lonely race but I was delighted to cross the line in 3rd. The whole day was great fun and the organisers did a great job at such short notice.
Thanks to The Belgium Project for the photos and Peter Davison (my idol lol) for the loan of the bike.
Well done to Drew from all at KCC!
