Two podiums for Killinchy CX’ers!

The cyclocross season continued on Sunday with the second round of the Kinning Cycles CX league in Dundonald.  The race was held on the grassy area beside the Icebowl as well as the steep rougher ground behind.  The steep climb forced the riders off their bikes but it was worth it – as the decent was fun and tested everyone’s skills to stay upright!  The course then twisted and turned with plenty of off-camber, gravel, grass and mud sections.  There was again a great atmosphere at the “race village” with all the club flags banners and gazebos.  We were lucky to site our club gazebo right beside the pits which was great for spectating and enjoying a cup of Heather’s brew!   We had young Drew in the under 16 race and again a great ride with a 2nd place!  In the B race Chris was unfortunate with a mechanical which ended his race.  What a performance from Richard G coming in 3rd place out of a field of 58 which I think means he’s now to join Ross and Scott in the ‘A’s?!!  Racing the 11 lap A race was Scott and Ross, Scott managing 10 laps in 19th place and Ross 9 laps in 37th place out of a field of 54.

Also at the weekend club member Taryn McCoy completed the Mourne Skyline trail race – really well done Taryn!!  The racers were also assisted by our Kathleen who volunteered to marshal on the day.
