Are we just a cycling club – NO!

And what do I mean by this weeks title, well let me tell you about some of our amazing members, who not only cycle but do various other activities that push them to their limits.

Stuart ‘I’m not a cyclist’ McIver proved that even though he has done little training this year for any running events (must’ve been due to Mallorca 🙂 ) pulled off a spectacular run at the Ards half marathon to finish 88th out of over 700 entrants.

Taryn McCoy completed the Ultra du Mont-Blanc 80km (yes 80km) challenge/race, even though she had a few niggling injuries and other commitments back home, however she was quoted saying ‘I am delighted I did it in the end & building fences and clearing overgrown gardens was the perfect training for the mountain ultra’. Massive respect and well done from KCC and your friends.

Stephen Millership & Philip Carson headed down to Galway to compete in their respective races (Stephen Triathlon and Philip Ironman). It was an early start for them getting up at 04.00 to do final prep work and breakfast before the 06.00 starting swim. The weather wasn’t the kindest to these hardy men, however our ‘supervet’ completed the triathlon in a little over 6hours. Philip worked hard and pushed his body to limits and completed the very difficult and brutal course in around 14 hours, which was slightly longer than his anticipated target, but there’s always next time 🙂 WELL DONE gents and massive respect from your friends and families.

Back to cycling and six very early risers headed off to Kilbride Charity Cycle on Saturday morning, and due to the good team work we arrived 1hr 40min early for the event LOL, however we were greeted with a smiling David Hoy who made us some warm porridge and tea. The event itself was not an easy one with loads & loads of rolling hills in drizzling rain and some fog, however the group worked well and even though some struggled with the pace we arrived back at the finish ready for the BBQ, before the cycle home.

Sunday was a wet and miserable ‘so called’ summers day, however it didn’t stop some of the 09.30 & 14.00 riders heading out to get some miles under their belts – Fair Play folks!!

On another note KCC are holding their last TT this TUESDAY 28/6/16, which will be a 2up event. So if you have an LC or Full license please show your support to this interclub event.
