Events Season kicks off and KCC move towards youth section

With spring just around the corner, the KCC strava widget had tracked almost 2000 miles covered by members in the last week. When snow covered most of our roads for half the week and temperatures barely climbing above 5C this is a huge total, which would be even more impressive if a few of the ‘deniers’ signed up.

Well done to those members out representing the club at various events. Stuart McIver completed the Bishopscourt sprint duathlon on 25th January.

Andrews Evans & McCullough, preparing for the racing season proved their Reliability in the A run at the EACC trial on the Coast Road from Carrickfergus. As always these events are fast and unrelenting. and we are just waiting for confirmation of how many cars they overtook on the way back at 30mph on the flat sections! We hope the guys made it down the stairs OK this morning and Andy McC isn’t too sore after being caught up in a crash.

The club Sunday run  was well attended although a big get well soon to Richard and Paul who crashed on ice at Ardmillan on the way to join the group. A broken helmet undoubtedly saved the day for Paul, and Richard sustained some nasty road rash and bruising.

The midweek spin was moved to Monday night to allow members to attend the very informative Sport NI ‘Safeguarding Children and vulnerable Adults’ course, delivered by Cycling Ulster. Around 20 people attended on a snowy night including a few guests from other clubs. Many thanks to all who came, at Marian from CU for travelling down and giving the presentation and to Killinchy Parish Church for the use of the Hall.  The KCC constitution states that the club has a desire to accept under 18s as members, and training such as this is the first steps towards making that happen. Our safeguarding officers will require further training and policies need to be put in place, but the wheels are in motion.
