Killinchy Belles (& Buds) Sunday Spin

The Belle train, with one bud on board, left Killinchy Hall after the issue of a flat tyre and a forgotten back light were sorted out.  11 riders in total took to the road on what turned out to be a fabulous sunny late November morning.

The group broke naturally around Drumreagh Bridge to accommodate different abilities but soon joined up again for the chosen pit stop of the week, Cafe Nosh in Dundonald.  Unfortunately the tempting offer of toasted banana bread, bagels and croissants were in short supply and plain old toast and scones was all that could be mustered up, but delicious and welcome all the same.

Anje, Bob and Ingrid took the road back to Comber while the others decided on a route towards Ards over Bradshaws Brae.  Somehow and somewhere along the Comber Road, we broke into two groups but this time, the break wasn’t intentional.  Not having been on her bike for a few weeks, due to ill-health, Paula Maitland kindly offered to be a scapegoat when a climb over Scrabo was suggested by Jill.  We couldn’t possibly leave Paula on her own so we got away with that one, for now! (Maybe next week Jill). However, the break-a-way group consisting of Lisa, Zoe and Catherine, weren’t put off by the climb and braved their way up and over the Killynether Road.  Well done ladies!

Leading the first group, Pauline and Jill took myself, Fiona and Paula down past Castle Espie, where we passed countless enthusiastic, bright and cheery cyclists, up the Craigarusky Road and finally home.  A great morning which was blighted only by Catherine’s puncture on the comber bypass

The ride finished spectacularly with Fiona landing on her ass in the car park.  Our other friends were missed but no doubt, will join us next week if the weather continues to be as kind.
