KCC pick up inaugural Interclub League trophy
A busy week for KCC with the good weather boosting attendances on Monday and Wednesday night club runs. It’s nice to be noticed, so thanks to the driver who took the time to post on our Facebook page complimenting the Monday night crew on their lighting and road manners.
Spin classes continue on Thursday with classes at 7pm & 8pm. Check in on the new page https://www.facebook.com/groups/864895493544502/?fref=ts where you can reserve your bike from Tuesday; or block book up to Christmas.
On Saturday morning three groups of cyclists left Killinchy at various times in search of a bowl of stew. After various routes KCC combined with our friends from Shimna Wheelers and La Lanterne Rouge in Downpatrick, before heading to Loughinisland for lunch. The three clubs celebrated the inaugural interclub time trial league expressing mutual thanks for what was a successful series and is eagerly anticipated again next year. Marty McVeigh of Shimna presented individual league winner Paul Crossen with the team prize on behalf of Killinchy. Thanks to all who turned out for a good sociable spin on Saturday, and to SW & LLRCC for the turnout, venue and lunch provided by Brennans.
A frosty start on Sunday tempered attendance on the early bird run, but the Belles’ slightly later start saw over 20 (male and female) out in groups enjoying good company, fine weather and a well deserved coffee to finish.
Sunday was also Cyclocross race day, with VC Glendale hosting in Falls Park. No fortune this week for KCC as Paul took a hard fall on the first lap, and Ross picked up some marker tape in his drivetrain which slowed him down to 16th (in a huge field of over 60 riders). Both are now looking forward to the Ulster Championships – the last race of the season – where they can really go for the win without fear of being upgraded to the A race!
