Killinchy Belles Chowder Run
Saturday 8th November saw the first official Killinchy Belles event take place, even though rain stopped play, the event was a great success.
The early birds group headed off in dry conditions to embark on a 30 mile cycle, however 20 miles in, the weather won and everyone headed to The Poachers Pocket for a change of clothes, a cuppa and a warm by the fire!
By 12pm word had spread that our “chowder run”, was now “chowder fun”. 21 Belles attended the event and a great time was had by all. The day included a hearty chowder lunch and plenty of refreshments, kindly supported by The Poachers Pocket. This was followed by a raffle with a prize and a goody bag for everyone to take home. Special thanks to the committee of Killinchy Cycling Club, Club sponsors Chain Reaction Cycles and fellow Belle Lisa Allen from Podium 4 Sport for kindly sponsoring the prizes.
The day was rounded off with party games, a sing song and a visit from our Chairman (giving them their marching orders! – RG). The last Belle standing was our chief mechanic Laura Wilson who spent a record 12 hours in The Poachers Pocket, without even a single energy gel!!
Our first chowder run proved to be a fantastic fun, although there wasn’t so much cycling, there plenty of chat, craic and comradeship. Roll on the next Killinchy Belles event!
