Sunny evening for our 2nd Time Trial!
East Down Interclub Cycling league between 3 local clubs, La Lanterne Rouge CC, Shimna Wheelers and Killinchy CC.
Round 6 of the East Down Inter Club Cycling League got under way on Tuesday evening. It was Killinchy cycling club’s second time at hosting a time trial, and this time we used a triangle circuit starting in Balloo, heading to Ballygowan, turning left along the Carrickmannon road and left again on to the Kilcarn road before finishing at Miller’s lane in Balloo just 0.2 miles short of the usual 10 mile TT. 16 riders signed on from Killinchy CC, Shimna Wheelers and La Lanterne Rouge CC including guest riders from neighbouring clubs Dromara CC and Ards CC. The rain from earlier on in the day eventually cleared leaving as a glorious warm evening with dry roads. The riders started off into a head wind but after the first turn the ride was a little easier before the challenge of the well known ‘rollercoaster road’ back to Balloo. Some great times were recorded with Ards CC’s William Gill and Killinchy’s Alan Patterson taking the top two places, third place went to guest rider, Dromara’s Barry Van Kellett. Thanks to Killinchy’s Ross Galway for organising this round and also a big thank you to all the helpers, marshals and time keepers that make these events possible! The next round will be a hill climb from Newcastle to Spelga (!) hosted by Shimna Wheelers on Tuesday 22nd July.
