St Patricks weekend racing
It was a busy weekend for our open road racers, with 3 days of racing programmed due to Annaclone being rescheduled due to weather.
Our riders travelled the length and breadth of the country to participate at these events, however Annaclone run by Banbridge CC was to be the best day for results for KCC. In the A4 we had Keef Younger making his racing debut, and Michael Harkin who was trying to gain points to get up into A3, and he was successful as he finished on the bottom step of the podium earning him the required points to move up into A3, as for Keef he learnt a few harsh lessons that day and what it means to sit in the red (threshold and intensity) as he drifted off the pace coming towards the last lap, but still completed the race to gain valuable experience.
Next up was Phil Doyle in A3 and Andy McCullough in A1 scratch to A2’s, the A1’s caught the A2 & 3 riders within 2 laps of this short circuit, then it all began to get aggressive with attack after attack and on the last attack only Phil was able to hold on to the second group placing him high amongst some of the best riders on the scene, he eventually finished 14th overall and 3rd unplaced A3 rider (still got a few £’s for his efforts).
Well done gents and here’s to this Saturday 24th for the Tour of Ards (TOA – starts 11.00)
