Week Ending 24/04/16
Club runs continue to gather numbers and are being well represented by male and female, especially the Thursday night loop route were the ladies are holding their own at over 18++ mph averages. Looking forward to seeing them at TT’s, open roads and off road events 🙂
KCC attended the interclub league TT with Scott being fastest KCC rider, we also had a few others representing KCC at different club TT’s.
Saturday & Sunday was practise and race days for our MTB riders, who didn’t disappoint when push came to shove, as KCC got 4 podium places, with Young Reuben Maitland & Drew ‘Hill Repeat’ Armstrong stepping onto the top step, Elliot Maitland taking 2nd place & Scott Maitland finishing 3rd in a very hard fought battle in S2. Amongst other riders in KCC colours we had Rudi Maitland & Andrew Croskey finishing well up the field in their respective classes – WELL DONE to all of you!!
Sunday 24th April saw the second of KCC development ride, although the weather was mild there was a headwind on the first part of our journey. Shortly after 15 of us took off on the same route as last week, we split naturally into groups based on ability. Andrew Evans led the fast group (7) who came in with a 16 plus average and Paul McBride helped along with Philip McMurray led the second group (8) who brought in an average of 15 mph. With the faster group getting a puncture on the Ballydrain Rd, the slower group got to the finish line first! All finished off at Balloo House with a very welcome cup of coffee. Everyone felt a sense of achievement as they had pushed themselves that more than they normally would. Special thanks to the boys for giving up their time on a Sunday afternoon to help develop the group, and a special mention to Pauline and Lyn who made the ride even though they only had a few hours sleep after their plane was delayed on way home from a KCC ladies trip to Lanzarote.
Finally on behalf of committee and members we’d like to wish Stephen Dickson a speedy recovery after a bad spill at the 3rd world leisure event in Downpatrick. Expect the unexpected and stay safe.
