Ulster XC Round 4 & A Podium at Titanic Criterium
Round 4 of the Ulster XC was hosted by Banbridge CC in Castlewellan Forest Park. About (what’s felt like) 6 months of heavy rain made the course slippy, sticky and technical in places. This round doubled up as an NPS event so there were plenty of top riders from the other provinces present.
Young Reuben Maitland was first off in the U10’s and continues to move up the rankings each week, this time finishing 6th and one of the fastest of the younger U10’s.
Scott started from the back of the grid in S3, and worked his way up to 5th by the end. (3rd of the Ulster riders). Well done to all, the conditions were more CX than XC.
Monday night was the next in the Super 7 criterium series, where Andy McCullough has been making a name for himself in the A4 section. This round was held around the Titanic Centre where a range of terrain (gravel, tarmac, rough concrete, & tram tracks!) along with some tight turns made for a challenging course. Andy rode towards the front of the group but just missed out on the final break of two riders, finishing an excellent 3rd.
A first podium for Andy and certainly not the last, well done….we know Andy isn’t the biggest but he’s there if you look closely!
The 7th and final round of the series is being hosted by NDCC in Bangor on 13th August, and will give the opportunity to ride the course on closed roads before the racing starts. The racing is also very spectator friendly so it should be a good night for all.
