Killinchy K150

Back in November 2013 at KCC’s first AGM, we agreed to hold a cycling leisure event.  We were apprehensive if it would be a wise thing to do or not as we were a small club at the time and it was going to be a massive task for those involved to make the event a success.
Leading up to the event our club grew in members, we sourced sponsors we never thought we could have, received support from not only our members, but non club members and on the 17th August, KCC opened the community hall doors to hold our first event.

A total of 244 cyclists registered (185 on line pre-entry), the event was split into 3 distance 25, 100 and 150kms. We immediately knew this was a talked about event between different clubs, we knew we were under pressure to achieve a good event (even if the wind was going to play havoc), but all in all we knew we had to ensure the event was save for those to cycle and we had the back up support required when needed.
The first riders set of at 09.15 to take on the ‘hilly’ route of 150km, then at 09.45 the 100km cyclists set of on the same route, until the split at the lunch stop and at 10.30 the 25km cyclist left.
On return from all the routes there was a BBQ, pasta, sandwiches, cakes, yogurts, bananas and much much more for those cycling to eat.
The first riders back from the 150km consisted of a group of 3-4 from various clubs and first back from the 100km route were three riders from the 745 Rouleurs.
The first group of rider’s home from the 25km route were a family of three.
The club would like to thank ALL our sponsors and members who made this event the success it was and they are as follows:
Chain Reaction Cycles (Flagship store Belfast)
The Poachers Pocket Lisbane
Ards Borough Council,
Total Produce,
PRM Foods,
Peter Bennett Photography,
Motor Cycle outriders,
Motor Cycle sweepers,
Non-members who baked and made sandwiches
And to everybody else involved leading up to and throughout the day of the event.

We are proud to say we raised £3750 in aid of Down’s Syndrome Association and congratulations to Clare Philpott who was the winner of the bike ballot sponsored by Chain Reaction Cycles!
